Today, we unpacked the May 2019 Prescribed Titles. If you were absent, unpack one title of your choice in Journal #11 for today – do NOT copy a classmate’s notes for today if you were absent. Use the same unpacking questions we used in class for May 2017 #5.
Today, we scored a sample essay and got new seats. If you were absent, please see me when you return to class to find out how to make up the work in Journal #11 for today – do not copy notes for today if you were absent.
We practiced unpacking a prescribed essay topic. If you were absent, please complete the activity on the attached PowerPoint.
Today we “finished reason” as a way of knowing with a discussion and notes. If you were absent, please get the notes from someone and write a reflection on the discussion.
Try these to check your understanding of the different reasoning you talked about with your partners. Record your results for each test in Journal #10 when you are done. Reflect on each test and self-assess. What do the results tell you?
Important Dates 10/25: have your reflection on the reasoning tests completed Today we learned what the experts in your group argued should be part of the outline of their section. Hopefully, you took good notes in Journal #10. We also came up with arguments that contained the fallacies found on pages 126-129. If you were absent, please read the remaining sections of Chapter 7 and take notes. This will be the first part of Journal #10 for you. Please get it stamped by me when completed following the absence make-up work guidelines found in the student handbook.
Important Dates 10/24: have your “fallacies of argument’ examples written in your journal & ready to share! Reminder of what we did in class:

10/11: It would be helpful to have a laptop for class this day! :) 10/15: Understanding Knowledge Issues and Chapter 2 Synthesis Sheet Check out this article related to some of Descartes ideas... what do you think?
We reversed roles from the Locke discussion we had last week. Regardless of which team you were on, make sure you have your initial free write from the start of class and then your reflections of the discussion in your journal – although the speaking team’s will be shorter. If you were absent, no matter what team you are on you need to get the notes from someone present, record them and then write your reflections on the discussion in your journal. If you happen to have been absent and you were on the speaking team you will be excused from the discussion in the gradebook, but you still have to do the writing for your journal grade. Period 5 also turned in journals. Please turn yours in when I am back on Monday if you were absent from 5th period today. Important Dates 10/11: It would be helpful to have a laptop for class this day! :) We read and did some quality reactive/connective notes on this Descartes excerpt. Be prepared to have a discussion on Descartes on Tuesday (10/9).
Important Dates 10/9: Period 5 Journal Check (rubric handed out in class on Wednesday) 10/11: It would be helpful to have a laptop for class this day! :) |
